Movie Review: Fantastic Four (2015)

Running time: 106 minutes

Director: Josh Trank

F42015They say, once you hit rock bottom, there is nowhere to go but up. It was difficult to make a film worse than Fantastic Four (2005) and they managed to do it with Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. So one would think that in the middle of the Golden Age of comic book movies and with the extraordinary cast Fox had assembled for the reboot, things would be at least a bit better this time around. Given one of his tweets (that he later deleted) it seems not even director Josh Trank believes that.

Young prodigy, Reed Richards (Miles Teller) joins Sue (Kate Mara) and Johnny Storm (Michael B Jordan) to complete a Quantum Gate at Baxter Laboratory. The experiment succeeds and they teleport to an alternate universe called Planet Zero where their physical form is altered giving them shocking abilities. Reed can stretch like rubber, Sue can become invisible, Johnny can set himself on fire and Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell) is made of rock. Back in earth they will have to learn how to use their new powers and work as a team to defeat a former colleague, Doom.

fftvspot-142157-640x320.pngThe movie starts on a solid note with 11-year-old Reed Richards breaking into the house of Ben Grimm to steal some materials he needs to make his teleporter work. After this, they develop a close friendship and they keep working together in the project. In present day, at the science fair, their prototype attracts the attention of doctor Storm, who recruits Richards into working for him at Baxter Laboratory with his two children, Sue and Johnny, and Storm’s protegé, Victor von Doom to complete a Quantum Gate that will allow teleportation.

Amongst its many flaws, the one that stands out the most is the flatness of the characters. The first part of the movie tries to flesh them out a bit but does quite a poor job. We already know they are going to become a team, so the key part to keep the audience’s interest would be how they will achieve that and building up the relationships. Just as Joss Whedon masterfully did in the first Avengers. Here, despite the great actors involved, there’s nothing they can do with what they are given. Their performances are bland, there’s no chemistry between them and therefore, no interest in what happens to them. They even waste the opportunity to explore Sue and Johnny’s relationship, which could have added a great dynamic with her being adopted.

human-torch-and-invisible-woman-flying-in-fantastic-four-internationalActually, this movie wastes opportunity after opportunity. The scene where they discover their powers after coming back from Planet Zero worked really well and was quite horrific, which is the tone they were going for, but then they skip a whole year without an apparent reason. When we meet them again, they are already training and working for the government. We miss all the conflict and how the characters react and get used to having powers, making Fantastic Four an origin story without the origin part. We don’t even know what it was for Ben to wake up and have become a rock monster. It’s from this point going on that the movie becomes an absolute mess.

The editing is horrendous. Doom, one of the most iconic villains in comic books doesn’t appear until the last twenty minutes and is easily defeated. A great way to, not just waste a great villain, but ruin it. Also, usually in this kind of movies you can always say that even though the story had flaws, the special effects and the action were cool enough to make it entertaining to watch, but the fight sequence is just bad and boring and you can tell from a mile away that it was shot in front of a green screen.

F4Doom2And the problem is not that they were going for a darker tone. That actually quite worked. The problem is that it wasn’t fun. They lost the direction, the characters and in the end, nothing really happens. As hard as it may be to imagine, it only gets worse and worse as the movie progresses. That whole final scene in the new facility was so reminiscent of the ending of Age of Ultron where Cap was cut in mid sentence saying Avengers… assemble, but badly done. The way they come up with the name of the team is simply painful to watch. The dialogue is so cheesy, you actually feel bad for the actors.

It is hard to know who is to blame for this, given that months previous to the release of the film a lot of re-shoots were done (which you can tell because they didn’t even try to match Sue’s wig with Kate Mara’s previous hair color) and Josh Trank wasn’t involved in them. Some would say that it is good that the movie was short but there are a lot of moments missing from the movie that could have been there to be two hours long and might have benefited the film. A lot of cool sequences from the trailers weren’t even in the final product which makes obvious that a big portion of this movie was left in the cutting room floor.

Movie Review: Ant-Man (2015)

Running time: 115 minutes

Director: Peyton Reed

34321After it was announced last year that Edgar Wright and Marvel had parted ways due to creative differences over the Ant-Man script for years, and with Peyton Reed taking his place in the director’s chair, a lot of people started to believe this was proof that Marvel’s glory days were coming to an end and that Ant-Man would be the first movie for the studio to bomb at the box office. Sure, that was the exact thought when Guardians of the Galaxy was announced and it ended up doing more than ok. So, did Marvel end its Phase 2 in a high note, ensuring that at this point we should trust Kevin Feige, or did they not recover from Wright’s departure?

Ex-convict, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) finds himself involved in Hank Pym’s (Michael Douglas) plan to retrieve from Pym Tech the shrinking formula he developed in his youth and that his former protégé, Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) is trying to replicate to create an army. With the reluctant help of Hank’s daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lilly), Scott learns how to use the Ant-Man suit and become the hero they need to pull off this heist.

Marvel's Ant-Man..L to R: Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Hank Pym/Ant-Man (Michael Douglas)..Photo Credit: Zade Rosenthal..? Marvel 2014The first time we meet Hank Pym is in 1989 as a spectacular CGI young Michael Douglas is resigning from SHIELD after finding out that Howard Stark has been trying to replicate his shrinking formula. This scene introduces us to the original Ant-Man and sets up some backstory to his character, in addition to revisiting some beloved MCU characters from previous movies like Howard Stark (from the first Iron Man) and the always delightful Peggy Carter (Captain America: The First Avenger) as the SHIELD founders.

In present day, Scott Lang is about to be released from San Quentin State prison after serving some years for a Robin Hood-like burglary. Out in the real world, his priority is to make amends with his family and prove to his ex-wife Maggie and her partner that he is still fit to be a good dad. But, despite his clear efforts they won’t let him see his daughter Cassie (played by the most adorable Abby Ryder Forston) until he pays the child support he owes them. Once again this year we have Judy Greer in a blockbuster film being the worried mom, at least Bobby Cannavale had an active part in the film besides just being the stepfather who is a jerk to the hero.

screen-shot-2015-04-13-at-10-12-53-amUnable to find a proper job with his criminal record, his friend Luis (portrayed by Michael Peña, who steals the show every time he is on-screen) convinces him rob an old man’s house. This way his path crosses that of Hank Pym’s, who needs his help and wants him to become the Ant-Man to retrieve from Pym Tech the shrinking technology that Hank’s former protégé, Darren Cross, is trying to replicate to create an army of tiny men. And as it is so typical with Marvel movies now, the villain is probably the weakest part and in the end, forgettable. Corey Stoll is good in the role and his motivation is clear but the execution is quite poor and often needs of a lot of exposition.

Scott is trained by Hank and his daughter, Hope, with whom he doesn’t have a very good relationship and creates great father-daughter parallels with Scott and his own daughter Cassie. Hope is reluctant to use Scott for the mission as she is far more capable and already knows how to use the suit. And even though her character was well realized and she had some cool fight moves during the training session, I would have liked to see Evangeline Lilly taking some part in the action. Spoiler! At least the end credit sequence foreshadows some exciting stuff for her character in the near future.

Ant-Man-3We will never know what movie did Edgar Wright have in mind so it is pointless to compare what we have and what we could have had. The important thing is that Marvel did it again and Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man is a simplistic but effective heist film with well-balanced comedy and does a great job at tying the film to the MCU while keeping it self-contained. Unlike Thor’s quest in Age of Ultron, neither of the references or cameos pull you out of the movie or feel like set up. The action sequences may not be the best we have seen from Marvel, but the use of the macro photography makes it a visual spectacle, and the relationships between the characters are a treat to watch. In the role of Scott Lang, Paul Rudd proves that he is a legit superhero and deserves a place in the Avengers. He was likable, believable, relatable and a perfect addition to the MCU. In a shared universe where supersoldiers, gods, raging monsters and enhanced humans defend the world, Ant-Man seemed like an odd choice to add to the franchise but, as Stanley Tucci’s Dr. Erskine said in Captain America: The First Avenger, maybe what we needed now was a little guy.

Trailer Analysis: Avengers: Age of Ultron (#3)

I have enjoyed all the trailers for Age of Ultron that have been released. I loved the darker tone, the scale of it, but one of the problems I had was that, as epic and amazing as the first two were, there was a considerable lack of humour compared to the first movie. Even Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is the most serious film in the MCU, had some moments of comic relief without being silly. This trailer has finally shown that aspect and I couldn’t be more happy.

ultron-does-doom-impression-b4d53The trailer opens with Ultron sitting on a throne and talking to the twins about how the only way to achieve peace is to eliminate the human race, starting with The Avengers. I love James Spader as Ultron more and more with every piece of footage we get. What a creepy voice… By the way, I think this is the first time we see Tony (Robert Downey Jr) saying he created Ultron. We are going to get a lot of Science Bros in this film! There’s a cool shot of the new Avengers tower and some hints at Civil War. Cap (Chris Evans) tries to save someone and fails. There is some Brutasha going on and something that at first looked like Wolverine’s claws but are actually Hawkeye’s (Jeremy Renner) new arrows.

tumblr_nkrwhaKAPb1sxz8h2o1_540The big money-shot of the trailer features all the Avengers engaging in a fight. I’m betting this is part of the epic opening scene of the film and they are fighting Hydra soldiers to get to wherever Baron von Strucker’s is hiding. There is a great shot of Cap, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Ironman facing Ultron and the twins across a bridge. Stark saying there is no way they will all survive (hinting a possible death?) and sassy Cap admitting it’s ok because he doesn’t really have any other plans (I’ll admit that the first time I saw the trailer I didn’t understand what Tony said and Steve’s response left me a bit confused). Those words are actually quite sad when you think that by getting frozen he missed his date with Peggy…

tumblr_nkrs7xLeCT1sfuc3no1_540There is another cool shot of Cap fighting Ultron on top of a truck and in the party scene that we saw in previous trailers, Natasha refused to try to pick up Thor’s hammer. Now, she is picking up Cap’s shield while saying “Am I always picking after you, boys?” Could that be a foreshadowing of her picking Mijolnir at some point in the movie? We also see the twins in action. Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) messing with Natasha’s mind and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnsson) punching Cap in slow motion. Thor, not being impressed with Ultron, asks if that is the best he can do (which clearly isn’t a smart idea, as Cap points out), Ultron laughs at him and calls his minions. We get a shot from above of all the Avengers fighting together (except Quicksilver, who could be running too fast or even dead).

tumblr_nksbwgO7fh1rz4t77o1_540And, as it is now so typical from Marvel, after the “credits” we get the first look at Paul Bettany as the Vision! He looks just like in the comics, while still being realistic. The details on his eyes are amazing and I can’t wait to see him in action. Some people are speculating that it might be the soul stone in his forehead, which could be possible as Vision is a robot who wants to be human.

Anyway, how about you? What are your thoughts on the trailer? Do you like it better than the first two or did you prefer the darker tone of the previous ones?

Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015

First of all, Happy New Year! Now, let’s star with some honorable mentions like Peach Perfect 2, Heart of the Sea, Jurassic World and Tomorrowland, films that I’m looking forward to, though not quite as excited about as the following:

#10 The Martian

ridley_scott_va_a_dirigir_the_martian_con_matt_damonDirector: Ridley Scott

Ridley Scott hasn’t done many great movies lately but I’m still giving him the benefit of the doubt. The Martian is based in the novel by Andy Weir, so the story is already there and if Ridley Scott can do something is making an spectacular-looking film and with this one being set in Mars, I expect nothing less.

#9 Minions

minion-miniDirector: Pierre Coffin, Kyle Balda

The cutest part of Despicable Me has finally its own movie and is of course going to be one of my most anticipated of 2015. Starring the minions, this movie is going to be incredibly funny and adorable.

#8 The Hateful Eight

-7882faad-1c50-4e2a-b005-b0e51c821e04Director: Quentin Tarantino

After what he did with Django Unchained, I just can’t wait to see what Tarantino has in store for this movie. The script for the film leaked but I’m glad he’s still making it, that shows it has a lot of potential.

#7 Crimson Peak

Crimson-PeakDirector: Guillermo del Toro

Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain in a movie together, do I need to say more?

#6 Spectre

007-bond-movie-announcement-new-title-spectreDirector: Sam Mendes

I love what Sam Mendes has done with the Bond movies, especially with Skyfall and Daniel Craig is such a fantastic James Bond.

#5 Ant-Man

Ant-Man-Movie-CostumeDirector: Peyton Reed

It’s not much what we know about this movie and the production has been a rollercoaster with Edgar Wright leaving after so long attached to it and some people are starting to lose faith, but, for me, Marvel has yet to disappoint so I’m trusting them for now.

#4 Pan

hugh-jackman-in-an-image-from-the-new-pan-movieDirector: Joe Wright

I can’t describe how much I liked the trailer for this movie and that is why it’s so high in my list. Peter Pan is one of my favourite fairy tales and I just love the cast gathered for this movie. The kid, Levi Miller, looks like he could be a great Peter Pan and I’m super excited about Hugh Jackman and Garret Hedlund playing Blackbeard and Hook. The only one I’m still not fully convinced about is Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily.

#3 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

imagesDirector: Francis Lawrence

The first part might have suffered from a lack of action and being quite slow but everything in it was leading up to this moment  and even though Mockingjay is my least favourite book of the trilogy, the movies have still to disappoint me and I’m sure this  will be an action-packed finale.

#2 Star Wars: Episode VII

2014StarWars_TheForceAwakens_Press_251114Director: J.J. Abrams

The race for the top spot was in a dead heat but finally I’m putting the next Star Wars in second place just because at this point, considering the previous films, I have a little more faith in Marvel. Still, I’ve loved everything related to this movie. The teaser gave us just what we needed, I’m very excited about some of the cast members and to see the original cast coming back. The most disappointing thing is to think is still a year away.

#1 Avengers: Age of Ultron

avengers-age-ultronDirector: Joss Whedon

The first Avengers movie is probably one of my favourite movies of all time and it seems the sequel is going to be at the same level. The trailer was just spectacular. I like the change in the tone, the new additions with the twins, Vision, and, of course, Ultron, who has the potential to be an amazing villain. Also, I’m so excited to see how the events in Age of Ultron and the relation between Ironman and Cap lead to Civil War.

This role has been a real rollercoaster but Marvel has finally confirmed this week that their choice to play the Sorcerer Supreme is the long-time rumoured Benedict Cumberbatch.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity… In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character,” Kevin Feige said in the Marvel statement.

Movie Review: Big Hero 6 (2014)

Title: Big Hero 6

Running time: 105 minutes

Director: Don Hall, Chris Williams

Starring: Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, TJ Miller, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr, Génesis Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, James Cromwell

Summary: An action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada. When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called “Big Hero 6.”

Big Hero 6 is the first film from Disney Animation to come after the successful Frozen. This time the took one of their Marvel properties and put the characters in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo. As you have probably guessed it’s a mixture of San Francisco and Tokyo and it never needs to explain the name because the visuals say everything you need to know. It’s colorful, gorgeous and mesmerizing.

Tadashi and Hiro were wonderful male characters, which is really nice because Disney Animation doesn’t usually get the male characters right. They had a beautiful relation and a great brotherly dynamic. But the big stand out of the film is of course the adorable nurse-robot, Baymax. He is just hilarious and so lovable. The animation on him was perfect.

The other characters from the nerd team didn’t have much development but helped to enrich the story and they had very different and colourful personalities and each one brought something different to the group. I think Honey Lemon was a great role model for girls who are into science. GoGo not so much, though, but I loved that they were at the same level as the guys both in the academic aspect, and in the action and contributed as much to the story. The villain’s motivation was a bit weak and felt like a last-minute decision.

It’s great to see so much racial diversity in a Disney movie and also making science look cool and the movie turns out to be very inspiring. It’s very funny but at the same time deals with great themes like empathy, compassion and knowledge is power. Definitely Big Hero 6 is a movie with a lot of heart that adults will also appreciate. It’s everything you want from a Disney film and I would love to see a sequel to it.

This Week’s Movie News (10-14 Nov)

New Age of Ultron Trailer! Suicide Squad! Daniel Bruhl in Cap 3!

Margot Robbie and Jared Leto rumoured for ‘Suicide Squad’

The rumours regarding Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn have been going on for several weeks now and after a brief consideration at Cara Delevigne, the possibilities has considerably increased in the last week after Collider confirmed Margot Robbie’s involvement in Suicide Squad. There’s no official confirmation from Warner Bros. though.

Another actor who has been heavily rumoured for the film lately is this year’s Oscar winner, Jared Leto. Reports say that he’s being eyed for no other than the role of the Joker.

What do you think about this? Do you like Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn? And do you like the idea of re-introducing the Joker or do you think is too soon?

Matt Damon confirms return to ‘Bourne’ franchise

Film Title: The Bourne Ultimatum

After Matt Damon said over the summer that he was open to return to the character, now the actor has confirmed that Jason Bourne and director Paul Greengrass are coming back for the fifth installment.

“It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

Jeremy Renner took over the franchise as Aaron Cross in 2012 in Bourne Legacy, which Universal pictures seems to be also developing a sequel for, instead of doing a crossover.

Christoph Waltz cast as Bond villain

Christoph Waltz

Chiwetel Ejiofor was initially considered to play the part of James Bond’s nemesis but according to recent reports it’s two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz the one who has landed the role. The production source said that “Waltz will play a significant role in the still untitled Bond 24 movie that will begin filming early next month. It’s not immediately evident whether the part is a friend, a foe, or a bit of both.”

Daniel Bruhl confirmed as a villain in ‘Captain America: Civil War’

The Weinstein Company & Netflix's 2014 Golden Globes After Party Presented By Bombardier, FIJI Water, Lexus, Laura Mercier, Marie Claire And Yucaipa Films - Red Carpet

Marvel announced on Friday that the German actor is going to be one of the villains in the third Captain America film. Even though he will not be the main villain in Civil War, Variety has reported that he could potentially be the main antagonist in Doctor Strange, which will come out also in 2016.

Producer Kevin Feige said the following about the casting:

“With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes,”

And regarding the Civil War storyline:

“It’s a big storyline, this is the Civil War of the cinematic universe, inspired by comic book universe, but the Civil War that’s based on all of the other films, particularly ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’.”

Marvel Announcements!

The battle between DC and Marvel to dominate the conversations keeps unstoppable. Two weeks after DC released their movie plans until 2020, Marvel organized an event for the press at El Capitán theater in LA to make some big announcements. And let’s just say, they didn’t disappoint. This is their movie slate for Phase 3.

Captain America: Civil War

As it had been rumoured for the past few weeks, Captain America 3 will bring the Civil War to the big screen. Kevin Feige stated that it’s not going to be like the one in the comics and instead of dealing with secret identities, it will be the government wanting some oversight, but the generalities of the Act will be the same. Joe and Anthony Russo are returning as the directors.

Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr took the stage, after Marvel showed a scene from Age of Ultron between Tony and Steve having and argument, and introduced the actor for Black Panther, who will be making his first appearance in the movie. But we’ll get to that later.

 Doctor Strange

We didn’t have an official confirmation yet, but with a director (Scott Derrickson) already attached to it and the constant casting news for the Sorcerer Supreme, it was obvious Doctor Strange was going to be Marvel’s next movie. Benedict Cumberbatch has been heavily rumoured this week for the role of Stephen Strange but the negotiations are not finished yet so there was no casting announcement.

 Guardians of the Galaxy 2

The Guardians of the Galaxy sequel was one of the few things announced this year at San Diego Comic Con but, given the success of the first one, the director James Gunn announced that the release date had been moved forwards.

Though they didn’t confirm any new addition, it seems possible Adam Warlock will appear in Guardians 2.

 Thor: Ragnarok

It was also rumoured that the third installment in the Thor franchise was going to feature Ragnarok and now we have the official confirmation. Of course, Tom Hiddlestone will be returning as Loki and the story will pick Thor right after the events in Age of Ultron.

 Black Panther

People started to freak out when Andy Serkis appeared in the Age of Ultron trailer with a very similar look to Ulysses Klaw, one of the villain in Black Panther comics. Chadwick Boseman was officially introduced as the actor to play T’Challa and, yes, we will see him a year before in Captain America: Civil War.

 Captain Marvel

Phase 3 brings us the first female superhero solo film in the MCU! Kevin Feige confirmed that indeed, the incarnation of this Captain Marvel will be no other than Carol Danvers. There are no director, screenwriters or cast attached to it yet.

Another team franchise, this time its members will be part of a race of superhumans. And you might think this comes out of nowhere but, according to Kevin Feige, we may find sooner rather than later how they fit into the MCU. Maybe some Easter Egg coming up in Agents of SHIELD?

Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part II

And last but definitely not least, Avengers: Infinity War, will be the culmination of everything that has come before. Done in two parts coming out one year apart from each other, to face the titan Thanos the Avengers will crossover at some point with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Extended Trailer for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Official Trailer for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Yesterday was announced that the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer was finally going to air during next week’s episode of Agents of SHIELD but somehow it got leaked on the internet and Marvel had no other option than officially releasing it. Check it out!

“There are no strings on me”

It’s not exactly the same trailer that was shown at Comic Con in July though a lot of the shots are, but they have omitted at least the party scene that seemed so fun, where everyone tried to pick up Thor’s hammer. That would have been awesome to see but I’m not complaining because this trailer is in itself perfect.

I love everything about it. The Hulkbuster is an obvious stand out, also the Hulk who looks even better than in the first one and resembles Mark Ruffalo more. I wasn’t very convinced about the rumour of Bruce and Natasha having a relation but that shot of them holding hands was beautiful. Also, how cool does Black Widow look being drop from the quinjet on her motorbike? Thor picking Tony up, the first look at Andy Serkis and his still-unknown character, Cap’s new suit and that shot of his shield broken, the twins and their powers… But Joss Whedon confirmed that Hawkeye was going to have a bigger role this time and he is still the less featured avenger in the trailer.

Everything accompanied by a creepy version of “I’ve got no strings” from Pinocchio and Ultron narrating. The CGI on him is incredible, James Spader sounds so terrifying. It looks like he is going to be an amazing villain.

I loved the wittiness of the first Avengers but is so great to get a darker tone and more depth this time around. I can’t wait for this movie.

This Week’s Movie News (13-17 oct)

Ezra Miller cast as the Flash & DC Movies revealed!

After the revolution that Robert Downey Jr’s rumoured involvement in Captain America 3 caused this week on the Internet, Warner Bros. didn’t want to be any less and they have released their whole film schedule from 2016 to 2020.

  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), directed by Zack Snyder
  • Suicide Squad (2016), directed by David Ayer
  • Wonder Woman (2017), starring Gal Gadot
  • Justice League Part One (2017), directed by Zack Snyder
  • The Flash (2018), starring Ezra Miller
  • Aquaman (2018), starring Jason Momoa
  • Shazam (2019)
  • Justice League Part Two (2019), directed by Zack Snyder
  • Cyborg (2020), starring Ray Fisher
  • Green Lantern (2020), reboot

The day after releasing this, Warner Bros. added on Twitter that the Batman and Man of Steel sequels are not included but they obviously have plans for them. One thing to take from this schedule is that if the Wonder Woman movie comes out the same year as Justice League Part One it might imply that Gal Gadot will not appear in it, which is weird considering she is one of the Holy Trinity.

Later this week was announced that Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Ryan Gosling had been approached for the Suicide Squad movie.

I’m so happy for Ezra Miller landing the role of Flash. He is such a fantastic actor and hasn’t had yet the opportunity to be in a big film like this. We also get the confirmation of Jason Momoa as Aquaman and something that is good to know, Green Lantern will finally be rebooted.

If you are excited about these news, there’s more. Warner Bros. has decided that before the sequel to The LEGO Movie comes out, we will get a LEGO Batman solo movie!

Actors considered for Doctor Strange

After the negotiations with Joaquin Phoenix failed, Marvel is keeping their search for Doctor Strange and apparently is looking at a handful of well-known actors that include Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, Ryan Gosling, Ewan McGregor, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ethan Hawke, Oscar Isaac, Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Farrell.

I, personally, would have never considered Ewan McGregor as Stephen Strange but after seeing him amongst the rumoured candidates I was quite excited about the possibility and would love to see him playing the Sorcer Supreme. Jared Leto would be my second option.

Javier Bardem in talks to play the villain in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’

Javier Bardem Presents 'Sons Of The Clouds: The Last Colony' Documentary In Paris

Reports say that the spanish actor is expected to play a ghost pirate who blames Jack Sparrow for the death of his brother and is searching for a supernatural object to aid him. Bardem won his Oscar for his performance as the villain in No Country for Old Men and more recently he went toe-to-toe with James Bond himself in Skyfall.

Other new characters to join the franchise include a love interest for Sparrow, who is accused of being a witch, and a male role to replace those of Orlando Bloom in the first three and Sam Claflin in the fourth. There are no casting clues about them yet.

The How I Met Your Mother actor is no stranger to hosting awards shows. He has already hosted the Emmys twice and the Tony Awards four times and next year Neil Patrick Harris will be presenting the 87th Academy Awards. This is what he had to say about it:

“It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.”

The Oscars will air on ABC on February 22, 2015
